Cain Center remodels fitness room
Open house today offers free test drive of new cardio equipment
The Cain Center is getting a facelift for its 25th anniversary.
Today from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. the Cain Center will host a "New Equipment Open House."
Cain Center Athletic Director Pat Gresham said there will be door prizes and hot dogs served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., "while they last," for the event. Those who come will be able to use the equipment for free.
He said the renovation project has been in the works for about a year.
Gresham said the remodel was done because the facility needed a "face-lift and be brought up to date."
The majority of time was spent planning and getting price quotes on the new equipment.
The Cain Center now has seven Quantum treadmills and four ellipticals, and three Aristo recumbent bikes.
The center spent about $50,000 on the remodeling and equipment.
Gresham said the designer of the equipment is out of Whitehouse.
"Being as close as they are, they can service the equipment better and faster than someone out of Dallas," he said.
Each new piece of equipment has personal television monitors.
"Everybody really likes the new layout. They say it is more efficient, and they like the TV monitors," Gresham said.
He said before the equipment was delivered, the room was given a fresh coat of paint.
Six weeks have been devoted to the overhaul. The reception desk has been included in the improvements, as well. The desk was resurfaced with new laminate and tile, according to Gresham.
"It was turquoise, it was out-dated and we wanted to make it look like a modern fitness center," Gresham said.
Gresham said the process is not complete. The locker rooms are going to be painted next.
He said the improvements have increased traffic in the fitness room.
"The flow of people, even the ones with athletic passes, has been busier since the word has gotten out about the new equipment," Gresham said.
