Legacy Lakes Opens Racquet, Fitness Club
It isn't quite two years ago that Forest City Land Group broke ground on its Legacy Lakes Plantation House Racquet and Fitness Club.
Thursday evening marked another milestone: the grand opening of its racquet and fitness club and tennis courts, located off U.S. 15-501 in Aberdeen.
The reception, held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Plantation House, was the community's first look at the development so far.
"We're delighted to throw open the doors of the new Plantation House to the community," said Peter Cozens, vice president of Forest City Land Group Southeast.
Work is also well under way on the residential development. Forest City Assistant Vice President Frederick Matrulli said one family has already moved into their home, and other houses are in different stages of construction currently.
Matrulli said that by the time the development is complete, Legacy Lakes will offer more than 700 residential units. Not all are models from which potential residents can choose.
"What we have are spec homes going up now," Matrulli said. "People can certainly come in, buy a lot and build what they want. We do have architectural guidelines, but the principles there are to maintain the architectural integrity while giving residents creative license. Certainly homeowners want something unique."
The range of model home sizes and styles is extensive. Residents will have the choice of three distinct neighborhoods.
The Reserve at Legacy Lake offers single-family units. Known as the Heartlands Home series, residences sit on half-acre lots and start at 1,800 square feet.
The Woods at Legacy Lakes, the community's new Garden Home series, offers patio homes with two to four bedrooms.
Timberview Townhomes, located adjacent to the second fairway at Legacy Golf Links, features golf course views. They range in size from 2,100 to 2,300 square feet.
Although the three neighborhoods are different, they will share the same classic Southern style and will be linked together by sidewalks, green spaces, dog parks, shared gardens and bike paths.
The Plantation House will serve as the development's social and activity hub of the 400-acre, master-planned community. It greets residents and nonresident club members to the left of the entrance.
The club already includes include six championship Har-Tru clay-surface tennis courts, a tennis pro shop, men's and women's locker rooms, fitness and aerobic rooms, and a great room with a full kitchen for catering events.
The club will host the North Carolina Tennis Association's four-day U.S.A. League Tennis Championships June 26 through 29.
The Plantation House will also offer clinics, events and training equipment for all ages and skill levels, including USTA League Play Tournaments, summer tennis camps, and individual and group lessons.
In 2009, a resort-style outdoor swimming pool will be added to the complex, along with a poolhouse and cabana.
"Our aim was to create the highest quality facility we could to serve Legacy Lakes and the wider community," Cozens said. "We predict it will become a favorite gathering place for sports and relaxation."
