Baptist Sports Medicine gets grant for youth fitness program
Saint Thomas Health Services awarded Baptist Sports Medicine a grant of $24,000 to fund Commit To Get Fit, a youth fitness program.
The money will enable more than 120 kids from two local Catholic schools and two local public schools to take part in a 12-week program at the sports medicine clinic. The schools will be chosen in the coming weeks.
Baptist Sports Medicine is a division of St. Thomas and has 40 licensed therapists.
The program, which starts this summer, is geared toward making positive and permanent lifestyle changes in young people and their families. Participants get pre-and post-program fitness assessments, two on-site workouts a week at their school and lectures on fitness, nutrition and character.
