Health fair to boost fitness, offer free tests

In celebration of National Nursing Home Week, Avante at Mount Dora will present its seventh annual health fair from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 14 at 3050 Brown Ave., Mount Dora.

The fair will offer free health screenings, including tests for blood pressure, blood sugar, body fat, vision and cholesterol levels, as well as podiatry and massage therapy.

Information booths will be provided by home-health agencies, Golden Triangle YMCA, Lifeline, Mount Dora Fire Rescue, Florida Hospital Waterman, Cornerstone Hospice, Lake-Sumter Emergency Management Services, Air Care emergency helicopter and the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Golf outing

The Educational Foundation of Lake County will host the fourth annual Ladies Fore Education, a golf outing for women, May 16 at Harbor Hills Country Club in Lady Lake.

The day begins at 10:30 a.m. with a mimosa reception and silent auction. An optional golf clinic will follow lunch.

Each foursome will have its own caddie who tees off and scoring will be done on the greens. Clubs are provided if needed. The entry fee is $150 a player with proceeds going to teachers and students in Lake County.

Winner categories include highest score, lowest score and best attire. A death-by-chocolate reception will follow.

Musical benefit

Music in Motion Dancers will entertain at 6 and 8:30 p.m. today at the Savannah Center in The Villages.

Twenty-four high-energy dance routines will be presented with themes of golf, tennis, red hats, happy hours, bowling and walking the family dog.

Tickets are $12 for Villages residents and $15 for nonresidents. Tickets are available at all Villages box-office locations.

Market on Tuesdays

Tavares Tuesday Farmers Market hours are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Tuesday featuring produce, plants, flowers, baked goods, citrus, seafood, specialty foods, local artwork, crafts and vendors at Tavares Station, next to Wooton Park on Lake Dora.

Club events

*The Eustis Kiwanis Club meets for a noon luncheon Wednesdays at the American Legion Hall, 101 S. Bay St. Cost: $8. To make a reservation, call 352-589-4080 at least 48 hours in advance.

A representative from Metro Crime Prevention of Florida will speak at Wednesday's meeting.

On May 14, Elizabeth Scholl from Bay Street Players, will be the speaker.

Clayton Bishop, a longtime Eustis resident, will share historical photographs and collectible postcards May 21.

The May 28 meeting will feature Rob Harris, speaking about a grass-roots effort to spur economic growth.

*The Kiwanis Club of Mount Dora meets for an 11:30 a.m. luncheon each Thursday at the Lakeside Inn, Alexander Street, Mount Dora.

Pastor Howard Roszak from First Baptist Church of Paisley will show a video of the devastation caused by the Feb. 2, 2007, tornado that killed 21 people in Lake County and destroyed dozens of homes. Guests are welcome. Details: 352-735-6125.

*The General Federation of Women's Clubs Umatilla Woman's Club will close its season with lunch at noon Monday at the Crazy Gator Restaurant, 402 N. Bay St., Eustis.

*The Woman's Club of Leesburg will meet at noon Monday at the clubhouse, 700 S. Ninth St.

Joan Hollins and Lois Horne will be recognized for 50 years of service, along with several other members for 25 years of service. The luncheon has a luau theme.
